Parental Involvment

As a teacher it can be very helpful to get the help of parents. Children often behave differently at home then they do at school. Parents may be using strategies at home that could be used in the classroom.  When the teacher and parents work together to set goal for a child with special needs it can make a difference in the quality of care. A child at home can exhibit strengths and weaknesses that they do not show at home. Parents can become involved by attending conferences and assisting in meetings with professionals. If there are difficulties or barriers that prevent a parent from being involved in helping develop the individualized plan such as transportation, some observations should be done at home.

  1. Children certainly do act differently at home. Parents are the only ones with insight into these behaviors. Their input can be very helpful when it comes to their child's education.
